| Literacy enhancement, mainstreaming, skills training for livelihood options through establishment of Non-Formal Education Centers for under-privileged children and youth. The project proposed by Mata Krishnawanti Memorial Educational Society envisages identification of non-school going children and school drop outs from weaker section of society. The entire project covers approximately 8000 children every year, up to 14 years of age. Non-Formal Education (NFE) centers function from hired accommodation within the community settlements. Children are divided according to age-groups i.e. (5-8), (8-10) and (10-14). Non-school going children and those having dropped out from school after having studied, say up to 2 or 3 or above, are brought under NFE centers. Knowledge and learning level of children is evaluated to admit them in appropriate class of NFE. Non-Formal Education provides teaching up to maximum class 7 and each child is prepared (learning-wise) in 1 year time for mainstreaming to local formal school in the next higher class. Each center of NFE imparts learning to about 80 children. All children are provided with set of nutritional supplementation and uniforms occasionally to make them feel cared and worthy. Incentives in the form of scholarships are provided to the students from economically weaker section of society to encourage further studies. Girls eligible for scholarship are those who have performed well (with at least 70% marks scored in final test conducted by NFE center) and are subsequently mainstreamed to formal school. Scholarship equivalent to INR 3500 is provided to each girl on successfully passing with at least 60% marks in each higher class (8th class onwards) at the formal school. The project also consists of Remedial Education, which is meant to provide tutorial support to school going children who find certain subjects such as Mathematics and English difficult to follow. Another major area where Mata Krishnawanti Memorial Educational Society works is to provide primary healthcare services focusing on child and mother on regular basis. |
